In the Kitchen with Punch & Pastry

March 15, 2017

A little over a week ago I had the opportunity to head upstate with my best pal Leah, the owner of Punch & Pastry, as she cooked, baked and served a group of six women. I assisted her from start to finish, learned so much and honestly really enjoyed the break from the city. It was so nice to have some friend time, laugh about nothing and get in the kitchen together. Plus the Kid & Coe property we stayed in was so dreamy! We put together a menu for the weekend a couple weeks before hand, picked up groceries as we headed upstate, and got to work early that Saturday morning.

Whiskey Chai Sour

March 7, 2017

I partnered up with Dona Chai last year to make some Chai Pecan Shortbread Cookies and have been obsessed with their chai ever since. A year later I’m no longer breastfeeding and thought I would experiment with their chai in a cocktail rather than baked goods. I bartended when I lived in Phoenix, and while I’m certainly out of practice I really love experimenting and coming up with new drinks at home. This one requires a shaker, but if you have one it’s ultra easy. Follow the instructions below!

Hello Healthy New Year, HelloFresh

January 12, 2017

I’ve felt an urge this new year, more than any other year before, to turn a new leaf when it comes to being healthy. Before I was pregnant I was much healthier than I am now – I practiced yoga at least three times a week, ate well and even ran a half marathon. These days I make any excuse to not do anything I mentioned above and blame it mostly on motherhood. But that’s how it goes right? Schedules’ get crazy after you have a baby (I mean crazy), and that first year can really be such a blur. Even now, the idea of establishing these new normals is overwhelming, but I’m sticking to it because I can feel how much I need it now more than ever. And, I’m sharing it here so you hold me accountable – at least three workouts and three home cooked dinners a week! It seems as though I’ve found somewhat of a rhythm with breakfast and lunch since I started working from home, but dinners always seem to be the toughest to get on the table. I’m not sure about you guys, but Owen’s fussiest time of the day is right around 5pm, which is of course when I’d like to be prepping dinner. We tried HelloFresh last week and I felt like I was selling Zack and my best pal Leah, who was over for dinner, on it immediately.

Balancing it All, Mealtime Included

November 29, 2016

If you’ve been following along here for even a small chunk of time you already know that the time we spend as a family around the table consuming meals is just about the most cherished part of our days. Food is important to us to say the least and instilling this distinct belief and appreciation in Owen is something that Zack and I discussed before Owen was even born. These conversations first came up when I was pregnant, and at that time it seemed a little daunting, but somehow it seemed far enough away that it was easy to put in the back of our minds. It wasn’t until we were truly in the thick of it that we really started to weigh our options on exactly how we would introduce foods to Owen. When he hit the six month mark we decided to start with Baby Led Weaning which has been fantastic for us ever since. Over time, Owen has proven to be an incredible and adventurous eater and mealtimes (provided everyone is well rested) are generally very enjoyable for us all – which I didn’t realize was such a rarity with small kids until recently so I feel really lucky.
