If you’ve been following along with my recipes for the last six months you know I’ve been doing my best to remove gluten and dairy from my diet as much as possible. It’s been such a learning experience when it comes to resetting cravings, making healthy choices and cooking and developing recipes without. Overall it has been such a great experience. I have felt more energized, my skin has been clearer (my main driver in making this adjustment) and I’ve had very few stomach issues.

For those of you who don’t know, we are lucky enough to live down the hall from one of our closest friends and her family in our new Brooklyn apartment. Amy has done everything from keeping an eye on Owen while we build furniture to letting us borrow kitchen supplies before ours arrived. Her boyfriend, Jerred, even made us these beautiful custom shelves. Needless to say I’ve been making it my mission to return the countless favors, which I’m not sure I’ll ever truly be able to repay, but I did decide to make a sweet choice and start with these homemade mandarin preserves.

If you’ve been reading Household Mag. the last couple months you know I’ve been doing my best to remove gluten from my diet entirely. Breakfast has always been my favorite meal, but nearly every breakfast restaurant I adore has a menu full of bread, cakes and grains. You could say I’ve been having a trickier time sticking to this diet through the holiday season than I might have thought, but I’m determined. So I did it. I baked something gluten free AND almost vegan (there’s just a small bit of honey in the Kind Snacks clusters). I even used coconut sugar, and YOU GUYSSS — they turned out delicious.
