A Birthday Treat: The Best Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake

Owen is two today and we celebrated early in NYC with this delicious chocolate peanut butter cake! We don’t always give into this much sugar, but we figured the big T-W-O was a good enough excuse. Scroll to get the full recipe from my dearest friend Leah of Punch & Pastry!

for the cake
+ 2 cups flour
+ 1 teaspoon baking powder
+ 2 teaspoons baking soda
+ pinch of salt
+ 4 oz. unsweetened chocolate bar
+ 1/2 cup butter
+ 1 3/4 cup sugar
+ 1 cup hot water
+ 1 egg
+ 2 teaspoon vanilla
+ 1 cup milk

for the frosting
+ 1 cup butter
+ 1 cup peanut butter
+ 4 cups powdered sugar
+ pinch of salt

for the cake
+ Melt butter, chocolate, sugar and water.
+ Sift dry ingredients.
+ Mix eggs and vanilla.
+ Alternately add chocolate mixtures, dry ingredients and milk. Be sure to scrape sides of bowl.
+ Bake at 350 until cake springs back when touched.

*Makes 1 5” cake and 24 mini cupcakes

for the frosting
+ Cream butters until well combined.
+ Add sugar 1 cup at a time while scraping sides of bowl.
+ Mix until light and fluffy

Make sure to let the cake completely cool before frosting!
