Ten Things for the Weekend

September 1, 2017

1. This week’s mantra: “If it wasn’t this, it would be something else…” – Elizabethtown. Does anyone else feel this when it comes to parenting? It feels like there’s always something new to wrap your brain around or a unique challenge to face. Sometimes when I find myself frustrated I think of this quote there’s just so much truth that brings me back down to earth. Owen is sick right now, but if he wasn’t sick maybe he’d be teething or skipping naps or going through a picky eating phase or maybe he’d be sick on a travel day and that would be even more challenging. There are always chances to grow as a parent and I’m grateful for that!

2. Zack said I was officially a mom for liking this one, but I started listening to Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations, but my girl Brene Brown is on the first two episodes so how could I say no to that? Listen here.

3. Wondering how you can help donate to Harvey victims? The NY Times posted a great article with links to different ways you can do so. I also shared how you can donate underwear to those in need on Instagram. It’s a simple, but essential need for all of those displaced.

4. Last weekend Zack got Owen to bed pretty early (since he’s skipping naps these days), we opened a bottle of wine and ended up watching the entire first season of Friends from College on Netflix. It was hilarious and so so good. Perfect recipe for a date night in.

5. I tend to share more moms that I love following (because I follow so many), but some of my favorite people to follow on Instagram are food bloggers. Here are five of my favorites who I’ve actually had the chance to meet in real life: @punch.pastry, @melinahammer, @feedtheswimmers, @kevmasse & @edibleliving.

6. We leave for NYC next week and I can hardly believe that this chapter of international travel in 2017 is coming to a close. It feels like we’ve been on the road for so long, but also like we just left – such a strange feeling. Starting to make our travel lists for next year – what places have you enjoyed traveling to the most? With and without kids?

7. Getting ready for a couple second birthday celebrations for Owen! He turns two in just a few weeks – ah! What have been your favorite birthday treats to make for little ones? This kid is obsessed with all things peanut butter so we’re thinking of heading in that direction.

8. Who are your favorite people to follow on YouTube? I’m so new to this area (and have hardly shared any videos myself), but I’d love to find new people there! One of my favorites is Hailey Devine. Her and her husband do a lot of traveling with their kiddos too and make the most gorgeous travel videos.

9. Zack and I finally shared a new podcast episode! It’s mostly about everything we’ve been eating Montreal – so much delicious food!

10. Fellow influencers, bloggers and content creators who are using Instagram for profit – I just switched to a business account. Here’s why. Such an interesting & helpful read.

  • I meant to comment on your instagram one of my fave quiet time activities is audio books! Using Hoopla or audible. There’s tons of great kid stories out there.

  • I would seriously recommend checking out Marrakech, the south of France (particularly loved Arles), or Vienna. All very different, but loved all three places when I was travelling. I don’t have kids, so I’m not sure what they would be like when you add a kid to the mix.
