For those of you who don’t know, we are lucky enough to live down the hall from one of our closest friends and her family in our new Brooklyn apartment. Amy has done everything from keeping an eye on Owen while we build furniture to letting us borrow kitchen supplies before ours arrived. Her boyfriend, Jerred, even made us these beautiful custom shelves. Needless to say I’ve been making it my mission to return the countless favors, which I’m not sure I’ll ever truly be able to repay, but I did decide to make a sweet choice and start with these homemade mandarin preserves.

Can I tell you just how excited I am to have my own kitchen again?! The past week or so we’ve been unpacking boxes each day, finding our new normal and doing the best with what we have when it comes to cooking (read trying our hardest not to order take-out for every meal). Our holiday season has been a bit untraditional this year since we aren’t staying in a place of our own, but with the help of our families and each other we’ve made every effort to create new traditions to help us feel at home. Last week my mom picked up Owen, and I spent the morning working, drinking my coffee in peace, drying out some Wonderful Halos and putting together a simple garland.
