What to Do in NYC with Kids: The Bronx Zoo

April 19, 2019

A couple months ago Zack and I were talking about what we could really try to encourage Owen to get into next. He’s beyond obsessed with numbers, colors, letters and shapes, truly cannot get enough of any mode of transportation and loves to read and do crafts, but we noticed that we haven’t exposed him to as much about animals as we could. He can identify most, the sounds the make and so on, but living in NYC means we have access to one of the best zoos in the country and we decided we need to make visiting more of a habit!

We took Owen last year, which was so much fun, but I really believe that three is the magic age where it all clicked a little more (at least for him). Our initial motive in visiting The Bronx Zoo this time around was to check out their Dinosaur Safari, which opens to the public today! It took almost no time to get Owen stoked on the idea. As soon as I mentioned it to him the week before he was talking about dinosaurs nonstop and asking to go see them. He loved the animatronic dinosaurs and wanted to ride the “trolly” again (we’re going through a serious Daniel Tiger phase over here). It was so fun to see him fearless and so excited about a relatively new interest!

After we took our Safari ride we decided to explore more of the zoo. Since The Bronx Zoo is so massive and we came later in the day our timing was limited, but honestly this could be an all day event if you’d like it to be, or even two days if you want to break it up. Check out all the details below so you can plan your next visit!
